This past Saturday, 2nd November, a small but mighty contingent from the Tuatara Structures team descended on McLeans Forest in Christchurch. We love an excuse to get outside and active as a team, so the Hunter Civil 6 Hour Blast, a mountain bike relay race run by Blue Dog Events, was a fantastic opportunity to do just that.

The event, in its 14th year, attracts around 1,500 mountain bikers. There are two race options – the 6 hour blast and the 10 hour day/nighter. The race can be completed in a team as Tuatara did, or if you’re really crazy, as an individual! The race can be approached competitively, or socially, which makes for a fantastic atmosphere and loads of fun.

Four of our crew took it in turn to race around the 11km track. Tuatara’s final result was 94th place out of the 214 teams overall – and 38th out of the 128 teams in our category. Considering the minimal prep and training that went into it, we were pretty happy with that result.

Our racers were looked after by a dedicated support team on the day. They worked hard on the BBQ and chilly bin to ensure everyone was hydrated and well-fed. By the end of the six hours, the transitions were running like clockwork.

It was a great day out for all who made it, and we will absolutely head back out on the track again in 2020 for the next Hunter Civil 6 Hour Blast.
